What Causes Dry Eyes

Dry eyes happen when the eyes don’t produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. Several factors can contribute to this condition, including prolonged use of digital devices, certain medications, underlying eye conditions, and environmental influences.

Long-term use of contact lenses can also be a factor in the development of dry eyes. Refractive eye surgeries such as LASIK can also reduce tear production that results to dry eyes.

How to Manage Dry Eyes

Dry eyes can be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam. During our EyeCare360, our optometrists will perform an external examination of the eye, including your lid structure and blink dynamics. We’ll also do a tear evaporation test to measure how fast it takes for your tears to dry out.

After your EyeCare360 exam, our eye doctors will prescribe a range of solutions that can help you manage dry eyes and prevent it from occurring again.
